It has been suggested by herders that the average slaughter body mass of calves should be at least 17-19 kg, while average slaughter body mass for young males (1-2 years) should be at least 25-27 kg. For females older than two years it has been suggested that average slaughter body mass should be at least 27-29 kg. 

Prvious studies hav shown that small calves are more vulnerable to unfavourable climatic conditions and predation, while small females have lower probability of successfull raising calves. On these pages you can study the distribution of weights  of  the various age and sex classes.
